Law students should of course be careful watchers of the U.S. Supreme Court’s developing jurisprudence.
Here’s an interesting video from the Brookings Institution previewing the Supreme Court’s new term that begins today. The Court has 40 cases on its docket for the term.
This could be one of the most significant terms in recent memory in terms of the Court’s decisions. Issues likely to be decided include:
Applicability of the Voting Rights Act;
Same-Sex Marriage (the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act);
Affirmative Action. Will the Supreme Court overrule its 2003 Affirmative Action decision?;
Applicability of the Alien Torts Statute (which allows foreign nationals to sue in U.S. court alleging violations of international law or U.S. treaties);
and more, much more!
